Apprenticeship Endorsement Program
Mission, Purpose, and Vision
The TSATA Apprenticeship Endorsement Committee was created to promote, enhance, and advance the Texas Licensure Apprenticeship route (Method A) to state licensure. The Committee offers an endorsement process for apprenticeship programs. These endorsed programs are recognized as being committed to ensuring apprenticeship students are instructed and assessed on the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) set by the Committee. The KSAs have been identified as the foundational level of knowledge required to pass the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) Licensing Examination for Athletic Trainers in order to practice as a Texas Licensed Athletic Trainer (LAT). The Committee strives to improve the organization, guidance, and modeling of curriculum and apprenticeship for endorsed programs. The Committee and the endorsement process seeks to increase the first-time passing rate for the TDLR examination as well as streamline the communication between the TSATA, TDLR, and the academic institutions that provide athletic training apprenticeship programs.
Committee Information
The TSATA Apprenticeship Endorsement Committee is made up of professionals that have over 160 years of combined experience in Athletic Training and education. The group has been involved with educating and producing hundreds of Licensed Athletic Trainers. All members are in good standing with the TSATA, licensure, and TDLR. All members have at least a master’s degree, with three having earned a doctorate. At least three members have been involved with writing test questions for the TDLR examination.
Committee members are Billy Ray Laxton (chair), Brian Farr, Dr. Andi Johnston Green, Daryl Hausam, Dennis Hart, Sonya Mikeska, Dr. Lorna Strong, Bubba Wilson, and Sherry Ann Miller (co-chair).
Promotional sub-committee members: Region 1 – Scott Smelser, Region 2 – TBA, Region 3 – Sarah Baulch, Region 4 – Jeff Smith, Region 5 – Mike Waters, Region 6 – Joseph Eberhardt, Region 7 – Daryl Hausam, Region 8 – Dr. Nydia Cabra, and Region 9 – TBA.
The Advocacy sub-committee members: Dennis Hart, Randy Matthews, Mark Gilbert, Mike Waters, Casey Reed, Frank Parker, Jeff Darr, Chad Helberg, and Billy Ray Laxton.
